Default Camera Advice

So I work at a electronic store back in Chicago and ever since my dad got his Nikon D90 and I just fell in love with these cameras. So now its time for me to purchase one for myself.
I am looking at two cameras at the moment to start off with and then later on move on

could you camera gurus take a look at these cameras and tell me which one would be good to start off with..

1. Nikon D60 Digital Camera With 18-55MM Lens (the lens come wtih unit)
2. Canon Black EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera

I get both cameras for relatively the same price, but I was wondering which one is better for a noob like myself and what is better for the buck and features wise

thanks in Advanced

They are both very capable cameras.

Choose the one you like better

Better to not get into the canon vs nikon thing.

What do you plan on shooting the most? That's really the most important part. When you buy a DSLR, you buy into a system. And for some, one system works much better than another because of the lenses, and other systems work better with lighting. Some render colors differently than others, which lends them to different types of photography than others.

If your dad has a Nikon, get a Nikon. That way, you guys can use each other's glass.

They do make adapters, but it would be manual focus only.
