Default camera advice

I have a Nikon D5000 and have been thinking of upgrading it to a D90. I was just wondering if it is worth it? Does anyone know if Nikon will be coming out with a replacement for the D90 soon?

I don't think the D90 is that much of an upgrade over a D50. Sensor wise, I don't think any of the Nikons are going to be a noticeable upgrade. Maybe consider a D300S if you need better AF, speed, and/or stronger build.

Before the D90 there was no demand for a video recording feature on DSLR. Since it became a standard and we receive many requests for improvements. I love the D5000's articulating screen, small size and quiet mode and lower price.I prefer D5000 .

I second the recommendation for the d300, although it depends on what you shoot.

I have a canon xsi that I've been thinking about upgrading, but am having a hard time justifying/not sure what to upgrade to. I've played with a friend's d300 extensively, and I think it's terrific camera. I tend to shoot still objects/portraits/landscapes, so the 7D isn't very appealing to me. I have considered a 5dmark2, but can't help but think there will be a replacement for it in the not too distant future.

What do many people tend to shoot with here, canon or nikon? I love the AF system of the d300, as it's very easy to compose shots, as you're not restricted to the 9 AF points on the majority of the canon bodies. Sometimes I find the af spots are just slightly off of where I want to compose a shot. Anyone have any suggestions for someone considering upgrading from an xsi? The 7D looks like a great camera, but it seems more amateur sports photographer oriented vs. the d300 which seems to suite the portrait/landscape photographers better.

I don't have too much invested in lenses (canon 50mm 1.4, tamron 17-50 2.8, canon 28-135), but don't want to take the loss of selling it all and having to rebuy lenses should I switch to nikon..

Stick with the system you know and have an investment in, the industry changes daily and if you chase the latest and greatest you will be forever poor.

Thanks, didn't see that thread/poll. Ya, I understand what you're saying about the industry changing, which is why I haven't switched brands. I've had my xsi now for several years, and I just happen to think I've "outgrown" it, but it's still a very good camera imo, and the "bang for your buck" is arguably unbeatable for the cheaper bodies.

I guess I will simply just have to wait and stick with my body for the time being until hopefully canon makes a body similar to the d300, which suites my needs. Man, I do like those d300's though..

Ya true.. I've learned that as well. The camera can however make things a little better/easier (I do love the a/f system of the d300). What's that saying..? "A bad carpenter blames his tools."

I agree, the person does make the image, but good equipment does help the image a tad
