when the shot calls for hand held at iso 3200 and the proper exposure is wide open (2.8 if not bigger) @ 1/60, how are you going to compensate by going lower iso ;)

I personally shoot 50.. But the knowledge that they have extended the range begs the question as to how far they may have advanced the technology and signal to noise ration to do this.. Knowing Canon, I can bet that they did quite a bit to boast the numbers and simply did not amplify the signal for the sake of advertising at the risk of noise in the images.

Canon can't afford to bomb their reputation over something like that. Normally I tend to ignore the "extended" iso number and assume some noise at the highest regular settings, but that's about it.

Also I wonder why camera manufacturers aren't working in the opposite direction? Until you get up into the newer prosumer models (newer or more expensive then my 40D), your lowest ISO setting is usually 100. I'd like to see that get lower, preferably down to 25 or less. Not needing ND filters would be great.
