Canon Loyalty Program
Overview - The Canon Loyalty Program provides the opportunity to trade in an existing Canon product for a refurbished Canon Digital SLR. There may be Point and Shoot options available, but this Thread will focus on the DSLR options. The program initially required the trade in product to be broken (easy to accomplish), but recently they have relaxed this restriction to simply being out of warranty. There have been reports of Film Cameras being accepted, but for now assume that you will need a broken (or out of warranty) Canon Digital camera (P&S or DSLR).
How do I contact Canon? The phone number for the CLP is 1 (866) 443-8002. Select option "2".
When are they open? They are open 7 days a week. Phone lines are answered from 8:00AM to Midnight Eastern.
I have searched the Canon website and can't find anything about the Canon Loyalty Program. Why is that? Because it is not published on the website. The only way to order is via the phone number above.
What models are available? Current DSLR availability includes:
Canon XS
Canon XS with 18-55 Kit Lens
Canon T1i
Canon T1i with 18-55 Kit Lens
Canon 40D
Canon 40D with 28-135 Kit Lens
Canon 50D
Canon 50D with 28-135 Kit Lens
Canon 7D
Canon 5D Mark II (Removed from the Program November 1, 2010. If you are interested in a 5DMII I would recommend calling the toll free number above and asking for availability under the CLP.)

I also read on Canonrumors that canon will: -- This wont apply to the CLP price.

Rebates on the 60D and 7D are coming February 20, 2011 in the United States and run through until March 20, 2011.
60D will get a $100 instant rebate.
7D will get a $200 instant rebate.
Both deals will apply to kits as well. No word on rebates for the rest of the planet.

I would not be afraid to buy a refurb directly from Canon. They come with a 90 day warranty and in my experience if your going to have an issue with a camera it will usually manifest itself in the first month. As far as the clp hey if you have an old film camera or a broken digital it can be a decent way to turn it into cash on a camera you may want.
Remember you are dealing with Canon directly which can have it's advantages over a third party retailer.

Awesome. Thanks for the input guys.
On a side note.
What would you suggest for a good all around lens? I currently have a 30mm 1.4 sigma.

I have bought a Canon refurbished P/S (An S1 IS at the time). A friend of mine works for Canon and has helped me with their online employee only site.
I'm not sure it happens with the DSLRs too often, but in the P/S space it apparently does.
A manufacturer can only sell a product as NEW one time. So when they sell 10,000 units to a large retailer and then release a new model, the manufacturer sometimes works with the retailer to deal with unsold models. I guess sometimes the retailer just keeps marking them down, but in larger numbers they must trade up.
The manufacturer has to open/inspect and put a refurbished sticker on each product. They then unload through the outlets as refurbished.
I would bet there are real refurbished/fixed products in the mix as well, but I think the scenario described is more common than you think.

tightcrap,
I was ready to pickup a refurbed 7D (the XSi has hit its limits for me, and a new body would certainly help), but it seems like the better option might be to just wait till the end of the month and buy one new w/ the instant rebate.. I've read Canon generally gives you a 20% discount on the refurbed price, with a canon camera trade in.

^ canon 50mm 1.8. The nifty fifty it's about $120. Zoom with your feet and it will meet most normal shooting needs.
[QUOTE=djdorifto, Feb 9 2011, 02:15 AM]wonder how much they'll give me for my 40D
