Here is a few pics from my deployment in Baghdad. If you want the high quality pics let me know and I can get them to you, but the internet is so slow over here it has taken me almost two hours just to load these few.
Hi Brad, since we pm'ed about critiques let me offer a few. Working backwards as your shots are not numbered.
The last photo, if possible put some light onto the soldiers faces in situations where you have backlighting as in that shot.
Photo above that, the three hummers with the sun dead center of the frame. Im not sure if I like it or not but I will say it is a very unusual composition.
One above that, not much of a story there-what is the focal point in the shot? Try to tell a story with every photo.
One above that, soldier standing. I like it its a different perspective one normally does not see so it holds my attention.
Above that one the palm tree and the sun, this shot does nothing for me, good job capturing the exposure on the sun but the subject matter and colors are blah. Try a different composition next time.
Above that one the lone girl, this looks to be a semi-candid shot nice control on the exposure and a good composition. A simple way to improve it is to zoom in a bit while keeping the same composition and eliminate the bricks on the right or simply crop te right of the photo as it is now.
Above that one, I think your aim was to catch the sun in the middle of the spire if it was you did well. what is not well is the entire photo is too centered and the sun is dead centered this composition does not draw the viewer in. try following the rule of thirds next time you get the opportunity for this type of shot.
And lastly the first shot, nice photo journalistic shot. It does have a heavy vignette and that line running from the left to right in the lower right is distracting but in this shot none of it matters. I like it it captures the essence of the surrounding you are in.
Hope these few comments help you out, and stay safe and thanks for ensuring our freedom and way of life.
