Default Day on the field

Went out and took some photos with my family at the golf course.. I was supposed to be learning too, but decided to take some pictures instead..

let me know what you guys think.. I'm still getting into it!
I used an older Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 push/pull zoom on a D90.
Sunny day with spots of overcast and we were in and out of shades often.. I took a lot of pictures of everyone but these were the better ones.

tried pp on cs5 too.

need balls in the shot. Not all of em, but you need the ball.

There are 3 things about golf photography, the golf course, the concentration, the actual golf shot.

If you aren't showing the course, show the golfers at work (but show their face); show their concentration, show them at the moment of impact or them admiring their shots.

Watch your backgrounds. That's the beauty of shooting at a golf course; your background doesn't always have to be green if you know where to shoot from.

I could've taken a different approach with the last picture, I see that now..
I think if I had shown it so theres more of the field, it would've probably looked much better!

I did get some shots with water backgrounds but I didn't like the harsh reflections from the water that I got on many of those shots.

To be honest, I'd be wary of standing in FRONT of the guy when you're shooting your family and friends as well. I know I'll NEVER stand in front of anyone with a handicap higher than 5 if I'm shooting. Cuz you never know where that ball's gonna go. Elite amateurs and pros I can trust that they ARE going to hit it flush damned near every time so standing in front of em is no problem.

Given that you only had a 200mm lens to work with, that's nothing on a golf course. I used a 600 once and I had to get into Dx mode with my Nikon just to fill the frame; but then again I was outside the ropes.

Props to you for taking shots instead of swinging the club; god knows I'll never put my clubs down to trade for a camera if I was hanging out with my friends and fam on a course

Yeah lol, thats my brother and the balls were going left and right.. once i was standing parallel to what should've been the trajectory and the ball nearly hit me!

Anyhow.. any kind of inputs from pros/pro-ams would be great!

Would the second picture have looked right if I had included the entire body? I didn't think of it at the time but on the third one, I can definitely see how cutting off the arms took away from the picture..

For a sports event, should the entire body be framed instead?

Whole body, or upper torso.

No one is going to know who that is when you frame it like that.

I think i sorta know what kinda shot you're going for in that 2nd one; but then without the club whizzing by or the ball JUST being launched amidst the divot; it's not going to work. That and the composition doesn't work for the message you're trying to convey on that shot.

Wanted to get a shot of Camillo in his "cobra manoeuvre"; but he never got that low when I followed him for 3 holes
