Good job.. The first shot is my favorite!

Constructively, the second and third shots have something distracting in the background. My advice when taking any shot is to force yourself to see the entire frame before shooting. This might be a pain, but in the end, you will have a larger number of rock-solid keepers.

Last shot was desaturated to convert to B&W.. Try this:

1) Open your image in PS
2) Select: "Layer"
3) Then from the drop down menu select "New Adjustment Layer"
4) Then from that drop down menu select "Channel Mixer"
5) When the window opens clock "OK"
6) On the bottom left click the box that says "Monochrome"
7) Adjust the sliders which represent different "filters" of constant density gels in the R,G, and B spectrum. Each with their own influence on contrast and see how this affects your shot. Doing so, will give you more control of your shots and not leave them looking flat.

Good luck!

Thanks Norm, b&w conversions are a bit tricker than I had imagined.

What are your thoughts on these?

Too much contrast, top corner blown out.. i dont like it.

bw conversion but not totally desatured.. does that still make it bw?

one last try before i give up..

and the original

please have a go at this one!

oh, tried this one too.. something with a bit more color in the original netted me this.

My suggestion would be to use subtle changes w/ the filters. Watch the highlights like in the first one... They are blown out.

This last one is stellar. I'm not much of a flower guy either, but this is a really nice image.
I'll have to try Norman's tutorial.

Thanks guys, it's just too bad that we planted these a few weeks too early and quite a few of them died.

Was never into gardening until I picked up this camera
