Default G9 replacement rumors

So I think I'm probably going to end up getting a G9 because I need something to replace my seven year old 3.2 MP brick I own, and hold me over until I get a D300. I was calling around the Ritz cameras here after I noticed they took it off their website. No one has it in stock and their warehouse is out.

So after calling about 10 of their locations in my area, one of the clerks said there might be something coming out that is replacing the G9. I personally haven't seen anything Canon has that can replace this high-end P&S niche... has anyone else?

(And PS - does anyone know if anything in the Nikon line compares to the P&S quality of the G9?)

Sexy looking camera... does it have zoom though? It looks like a fixed lens according to the site...

David Pogue had an article and video recently in the NY Times describing the Sigma DP1 camera. I think he liked the sensor but the rest of the camera had too many drawbacks for him.

I have the G7 and love it. The picture quality is excellent.

I've read a few places that the G10 would be coming soon.. but I guess we'll see.

Nikon is also releasing an updated upscale P&S too that people are thinking will handle noise better than the G9/10.

Are you referring to the Coolpix P6000? That one's due out in October... I wish I could get my hands on it now to see if it's worth it or any better than the G9.

The G9 is discontinued! Now the only place I can find it is on Amazon. I guess now I'll have to find something else to buy as a P&S, or just save that $500 and put it toward a nice lens once I get the D300.

Any nice alternatives to the G9, or know for sure what's replacing it?

G10
It should be announced at Photokina along with the 5D replacement.
