Default Good point and shoot camera?

Hey guys, I use to have a DSLR camera but I ended up selling it since I didn't use it to much. I am just looking for a good point and shoot camera below $300. I looked up the best point and shoot cameras for 2010 and the Canon PowerShot SD780IS is number 1 on the list. Has anyone here have or had one of these? If you have any recommendations let me know.

Thanks.

Nikon p7000 or Canon s95, it will cost you maybe $100 more but is by far a better camera

I am very happy with my Lumix series point and shoot. People will probably prefer to steer you to Canons and Nikon due to the heritage but the Lumix I bought takes very good pictures and the primary reason I bought it is that Panasonic sells underwater housings for them for about $200 if you happen to be into scuba or snorkeling good to 110 meters deep.

Don't know if you are into that sort of thing but I throw it out there...

i always love canon and loved my canon Powershot 750D, espically time lapse video with correct me if im wrong this is the only camera that has this. 1pic a second and converts it into a vid

canon has a new point and shoot with a 12x optical zoom...impressive and its about 350shipped

have you seen that point and shoot 3D camera that also takes 3D vids?

i have a canon s95. i think it's a really solid point and shoot. truly compact (more so than it's main competitors, the nikon p7000 and the panasonic lx5). takes really nice shots in good light, more than decent shots is low light.

it is a bit more than your $300 budget (i paid $400 when it first was released).

hope this helps

vader1: Thanks for the advice. I live in a corn field in Kansas, so I havent ever been scuba diving or anything like that haha. I will have to remember that though if I plan on doing something like that.

rugsr: I'll do a little more research on the Canon 750D, the lapse video thing sounds pretty cool. Thanks for your input. Also I have not heard or seen the 3D camera your talking about. Link?

pup73: I'll also do a little research on the Canon s95. Yeah i'm looking for a decently compact camera that I can get a decent quality pic out of. I just have a cheaper 8 megapixel Easyshare camera and it has a really hard time taking pics in the dark. I tried to get a decent pic of my LED dash controls in my s2000, and most of them came out blurry no matter what I tried. I will look into this.

Thanks for all of the replies, it is greatly appreciated.

Sorry. I looked through the first couple pages on here and didn't see anything except for specific cameras, and didn't see anything comparing the better point and shoot cameras.

Maybe i'm just blind.

From the cameras people listed here, I think my favorite is the Nikon p7000 just from quick reading. Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll go ahead and lock this up.
