an HDR image is supposed to make you say "what the #### is going on?" when you see one. Since your mind can't process all of the colors and tones in the image at the same time.
No, that is the psychoactive LSD.

I've seen a few pics from this guy (www.arinahnell.com) posted on a VW forum I frequent and they are great examples of the more surreal style of HDR photography:

PS: Sorry for the big images, they are taken from his site and Ican't resize them here at work.

I like the last one, it is more subtle. I dislike the first two. Too outrageous.

I pretty much agree. Most of his hdr photos are (IMO) a bit overprocessed and I think the tone3 mapping applied to them is a little too aggressive. But I personally prefer a more realistic interpritation of HDR as opposed to the surreal type imaging.

They are good photos however and while I prefer a more realistic approach, I can't say that his surreal images are not fun to look at (the middle image is even my backround on my work cpu right now lol).

I don't think I've ever seen a good looking HDR of a car. Those two aren't terrible but I think the 3rd one is great minus the dust.

HDR of my S2000 (I know title said non-S2k content....)

Mine's very subtle. I don't mind outrageous HDR for some shots, as it is really fantasy that we're dealing with.... But it's already fast becoming a cliche (if not already so)
