Default Lense Recommendation, please...

Hey guys...

I could use some assistance.... I would like a new lense for my nikon D70.

I need a lense to take shots a volleyball games for my daughter.

I need something for indoors, action shots. gymnasium lighting.

I not sure if 200mm or 300mm would be best. I can be shooting from courtside or high in the bleachers.

My first attempts this year were mixed using my tamron 70-300.
See:

(most of the pics were taken with the Tamron)

I THINK I need vibration reduction and more capabilities of shooting fast action sequences in the gym lighting.

recommendations, please? Brand, features, etc.

Thanks!
Steve

Gymnasium lighting, I will recommend 70-200mm f/2.8VR instead of 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6VR. 18-200 is a great all around lens, but for your need, this case low light, constant f/2.8 is a much better choice IMO.

I seem to have something for everyone I guess it's I'll shoot just about anything to get some practice in- you've all seen my shots, I need it.

These were taken a few weeks after I got my D70s with the 70-200 2.8 VR late last summer.

I believe these are all at ISO 800, all around 70-100 mm, and I was able to get a shutter speed of around 1/100 to 1/125.

They are all jpgs, with the WB set for incandescent. The gym has a dozen or so of those monster gym lights. They'll at least give you some idea of what to expect.

I'd suggest a faster prime that is capable of 1.8 or 2.0. Even 2.8 won't be fast enough to stop all of the action and to maintain speeds of 1/250 or faster.

If your justification for getting a 70-200 2.8 is to use it for HS indoor sports you

for the 85mm range, i think there's a Nikkor 85mm 1.8D and a 1.4D as well
