Default Looking to buy a camera.

I'm planning on buying my first SLR. I have a budget of around $700-800. What do you guys suggest? I don't want something to crazy because like I said it's my first. And I want something I'm not going to be too restricted on ether. Something I can play with and get a good feel for. Thanks for the help in advance.

You can get a new Rebel in that range, or try to find a nice used/refurbished something... I'd probably recommend the latter.

Look at the Canon's 20D-50D line. That's probably the best way to get started.

- Used Nikon D50 with the lowest shutter count you can find.
- Nikon 35mm ƒ1.8 lens (new).
- Nikon 50mm ƒ1.8 lens (new).

You can check Fred Miranda, KEH, and Ebay for the body. For the lenses I suggest abesofmaine, adorama, or bhphotovideo (whomever is cheapest that week).

This is a stellar combo IMO, and will serve you very well for the money.

I agree but D40 over D50. They are cheaper and have a higher sync speed

Then again... those lenses aren't very big and won't make him look cool.

Find something on craigslist. Get something with and AF motor.

The D40 doesn't have an internal focus motor, so you'd have this n00bie using his 50mm manual?

OP, as I said, get a D50, I suggested it for a reason .

Ohh yea my bad. I always forget the D40 doesn't have full lens compatibility. Could get the 50 1.4 AF-S then but that would offset the cost of the D50.
