here's some reviews.

what are you going to use the lens for?
general all-around, sports, portraits, etc?

What kind of sporting events will you be shooting and what is your budget range? Also what camera do you have?

Actually, here is the link you want. Same lens, Nikon mount. 219 instead of 139.

I have the Nikon 70-300 4-5.6. I bought it as a one telephoto lens to take on vacation. It worked well for that and I think is comparable to the Sigma in specs. Here are two shots:

I also have the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR. I use that (sometimes with the 1.7x TC) for sports and racing events. Thats a $1700 lens.

I think it might come down to how fast the AF is on the Sigma lens and whether you can keep up and focus on sporting events. I find that 'random' sports are tough regardless, as there isn't a set play to follow, the ball can go from any player to any other. At least in motorsports, you can focus on an area, and all the cars go through it.

You'll probably get both ends of the spectrum in this thread.

I think in bright days, the max aperture of 5.6 (when zoomed) will probably be fine.

Just my two cents, which is sometimes worth less.

How did the TC do with that lens with high speed photos? I'm actually going to be fortunate enough to borrow one for the Montreal F1 race next month. I wasn't sure whether or not to use the TC or not. I don't think I'll be close enough so that would definitely be a benefit, just not sure if there is a con to using the TC.

I lose a stop and a half with the 1.7x, so 2.8 becomes F4.5 or f4.8 I think?

The autofocus seems to hunt a little with it, so for most moving things that could be a problem.

A few from Brazil F1 in 2006.

I think what I'm seeing is that I probably had the camera set to Shutter Priority to get some panning and motion in the shots. I also only had the camera about a month or two before the trip and it was probably the first time I really got a chance to use the 70-200 with the 1.7x TC for this purpose.

After a year: f/4.8 1/2500th @ 340mm

Enjoy Montreal...

Thanks bud... I might use the teleconverter to try to get photos of people from a distance, but shoot without the teleconverter when "trying" to shoot the cars.

I'd like to add...

here is what I shot with 70-200 f/2.8 + Nikon 2.0x TC

its definitely not as sharp as bare 70-200 but it works for me.
