Default Machu Picchu

Thus far on my travels, the most stunning thing I've seen has been the Grand Canyon. I was hoping Machu Picchu would eclipse it - I wasn't disappointed.

Actually, that's not quite true - I was disappointed when I got up there. It was raining in Aguas Calientes (the town nearby) and it was very misty and cloudy up the mountain :

However, that did allow for some lovely atmospheric (hoho) views

And then, the mist started to clear...

It's an incredible place.

Although you do get the odd twat in a hat popping up

ETA - oh and the mozzies are bastards

All taken with a Canon 50mm 1.4 on a 1DMkIIN (those of you who remember my pondering over which lenses to take around the world might be interested to know that I sold my 70-200 f4 and 28-105 f4 whilst in the US to bolster my funds. It's actually been quite fun being restricted to one prime.)

That place looks like a miniature settlement from the perspective of your pics. And i see your still on your journey. How much longer are you traveling? Nice shots regardless and you need some nepetalactone to ward off those mozzies!

Those are some wonderful pics - I can't believe they're all taken with one lens! Please share more... and don't scratch the bites, it only makes them worse

I'm planning my vacation for next year, and narrowed it down to Africa or Argentina (Patagonia region specifically.)

These places are truly mindboggling.

That's what you get for travelling the world in a kilt

Excellent shots, cool location.

Glad you were able to keep the 1D

Yup. No idea how much, but the kilt's been adjusted once and needs doing again. So I reckon about 3 inches off the waist at least. To be honest, though, that's probably just back down to where I was when I moved to Edinburgh (bloody Tennents )

zippy - the ticket has another 6 months to run, but I might have to come home early due to dwindling cash. I'm off to New Zealand in 10 days for 5 weeks and should be fine for that, but I'll run out sometime in the 5 weeks afterwards in Australia. So work will have to be sought. I want to get at least as far as the Philippines before calling it a day, which should be end of October.
