Default Nikon D3

The other day, ketchup and I were playing around with the Nikon D3 at BH. Today I went back during lunch to mess around with it some more. And this thing is AMAZING! Super clear LCD, solid feel, the best shutter sound out there, BIG view finder!

The thing just felt great in my hands. Controls were excellent, very ergonomic camera.

At 5K, it's a bargain compared to the 1DsIII or even the 1DsII. Dunno how Canon can justify their pricing now that the D3 has dropped on shutterbugs everywhere.

See, that's one benefit to living in the "photography desert" that is Richmond, Virginia: there are no stores in this area to tempt me with top-of-the-line equipment.

I could not have had a D3 in my hand and not walk out with it.

Nikon bodies are sexy! But the Nikon prime lens line up is lacking. There is no way the 1DS MKIII can compete at that price point. I'd be a little nervous walking around w/ a $5k camera though.

Prime line up isn't lacking, but needs to be updated (with AFS and VR), which you shall see soon next year Q1-2. Nervous carrying an expensive camera around? Get your gear insured is the way to go.

I am still holding on getting a D3 now, will wait till more supply hit the market next year.

AF is autofocus, AF-S is silent wave motor like USM.

yea seriously, 50 1.4 and 85 1.4 were came out in 1995, i'd say those primes are due for an upgrade.

So the 50 & 85 is AF. So that means they don't have full time focusing? If so, that sucks!

AFS is similar to USM, which lenses focus faster and quieter. The newer versions should have that AF override function.

that swan shot was taken with a tele converter...amazing clarity.

and we all know tele converters soften and lose detail in images.

i'm hoping to pick up a d3 as well when it becomes more available sometime next year.
