Default Point and shoot: Which one?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a point and shoot camera to take w/ me when I'm out w/ friends, or don't want to set up shots. I've narrowed it down to either :

Nikon S52

OR

Canon SD 870 IS

Any opinions?

What's your budget? How small do you want it? Any features you can't live without?

Size doesn't matter so much, smaller is always better but I don't want to sacrifice much. I'm really just focusing on which one would have the best picture quality, as I would much rather sacrifice features for performance -- like the design of the S2000

The Canon A720 IS is $100 less than the 870.... has very similar features (both are 8 mp), and uses AA batteries instead of a "purpose built" battery. Worth giving a look.

The wife's 720 takes great images.

Try stevesdigicams. He has reviews for both cameras, and his "best cameras" list is right on the money with categories based on size and function.

Canon all the way, not even a choice there.
