Default Point & Shoot Recommendation

Im buying a P&S for the gf and would like to know which one is the best buy. All this photo mumbo jumbo is really confusing, especially the Canon SD line. Budget is below $400. Thanks for your help!

Looking for:
  • Small compact design
  • HD movie

Canon S90 if you want something small and compact. Same over sized sensor as the G11. Good high ISO noise performance and a fast f/2.0 lens. It also has really nice controls on it. Easy to use. 400 bucks.

Isnt the S90 as big as the G series? Im looking for something more compact to fit in her bag/purse. How is the Canon SD 700 something.

Too big???
I honestly think the s90 is big. If you want something compact with hd capability look into the canon powershot sd780. It's 12.1 mp and records 720p video and it's way cheaper than the s90.
Dimensions of the s90:
3.94 x 2.30 x 1.22 in
Dimensions of the sd780:
3.4 x 2.1 x 0.7

I have a sony cyber-shot w290 and i love it. Got it for 200 at frys. It's also 12.1mp and records 720p videos and the dimensions are
3.75 x 2.25 x 0.875 (which is still more compact than the s90)
Hope this helps
