Just looking at SD cards on ebay, some seem too cheap:

Nah! I buy *all* my memory cards from ebay. You need to look out for the hidden costs from international sellers, like high insurance costs etc.

I have never been chaged any import duty on any memory card bought from either the US or the far East

Bought a 4GB SD card a few days back for

I bought a 2GB Sandisk High Speed Memory Stick duo for 40 bucks on ebay, and the retail is more than twice that. No problems here.

Hate to differ but;

There are a lot of fakes (and some real stuff) going around on Ebay and its extremely difficult to tell what is and isn't a fake without getting the numbers off it and mailing the manufacturer ( I think Sandisk might do I guide to spotting the real thing). This type of stuff appears from time to time on the camera forums. Its also extremely easy to fake and hard to spot as its only printing and packaging.

Fakes will still work but may/may not be a different rated speed than advertised. There aren't that many fabs that produce high capacity flash so a fake may even have gone down the same production and packaging line but it will probably be a different design.

Agree with Steven that jessops over charge, on thier luchtime special's the other day they had 1gb extreme 3 down from

If mine is a fake, its a damn good one....the packaging was perfect, as well as the performance. Hasnt crashed on me yet.

My 4GB CF Ultra II looks fake

I am in the process of speed testing all of them.

I have never had a problem with a CF card failing.

I have never had any problems with the generic cards I have bought or the san disk ones either. These fakes are so good sometimes even retailers have been caught by them. Wouldn't be much point in faking it if it was easy to spot, everyone would know it was a fake.

I'd also be interested if you guys who have bought Sandisk etc. off of fleabay to check. Cause if there aren't any fakes I'd definately be up for those prices...
I've had two Sandisk Ultra's from Ebay (different sellers) both were fakes. Both worked OK but were way too slow. I raised PP disputes and got my money back on both. Still got both Cards as the sellers soon ceased trading......

I think if you pay the right prices with your eyes open there are some bargains to be had. For important events I have two genuine Sandisk Extremes which I use.

Jessops are way too expensice - I often use http://www.memorycardzoo.co.uk/
