Default A shot into the Sun :)

Hey, I took some pics for a buddy, but for the first time I tried shooting into the sun, using my SB-600. I think it would have come out better if I had another Speedlight in front of the bumper, but I wanted to capture the wheel so I placed the flash there........

You said what I would have, nice to see you experimenting. Just dont get caught up into the lens flare look IMHO its as bad as the HDR fad.

Gotcha, also how is it possible that my Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 seems to be my sharpest lens? Or is it the fact that it forces me to shoot at F4 and higher where with my fast lenses I have a tendecy to shoot wide open and not fully understanding how to use DOF?

You answered your own question, just because a lens is fast does not mean it is sharp at that fast aperture. You will find the sweet spot for most lenses is F8 for sharpness.

The sun is a little hot. I would stop the lens down next time a bit more than F4. I'm not sure if the speedlight you have has enough juice to light up a black car but there is no harm in trying. The only problem is, your sun/time of day isn't pretty. The sun is just white. Take that shot when the sun is a nice color, so you can actually capture it.

i like it a lot. would be nice to just patch out the flash from the bumper, then again if you patch too much it looks too dark, but thats the part of another flash i guess. maybe even a reflector? im horrible with lighting though
