Default suggestions on a dlr

Hey guys I've been itching to grab another dlr camera but I don't know which one to go with. I bought my ex-girlfriend a Nikon D50 and it was great but like I said she is my ex now so I don't have a camera. So now I am in search for one for me. I really like Nikon but I am open to anything. I like to take a lot of pictures and mess with it. I travel alot so I am always taking pictures. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

Well it depends on what you are looking for. I think the two big names here are Nikon and Canon. The short version of this is:

Nikon produces better camera bodies and Canon has a superior lens system (oh how I envy Canon glass mmmmm..... I have a D50 personally lol).

I went with the Nikon because it felt more like a real camera in my hands, the body was bigger, heavier and more solid feeling and I really liked the size of the grip. the Canon felt fragile and small to me. At this point I'm really 50/50 on if I went with the right choice because I really like the Canon glass system a lot.

I would recommend either a Nikon D80 or Canon Rebel XTi, both of those should fit within your budget (though only barely lol).

I've been seeing more Nikons out there lately. My vote doesn't count since I'm biased towards Canon. Make sure to check out both Nikon and Canon cameras in person like at Best Buy, then go home and order it online for much cheaper.
