thinking of going DSLR
I have been thinking of getting a DSLR for awhile , but price is kind of holding me back. I have seen some expert interviews where they talk about the difference between 500 and 1000$ lenses and that put me off. So i went with a mega zoom, while it better than my old point and shoot its just not as crisp as i would like.
I like shooting macro, landscapes, and sports. I imagine I would need some sort of zoom lens to shoot from the stands as well as a macro lens. Where i need help is finding out exactly what i should get.
I'm really liking the rebel t1i but thats topping out my price range for a body and lens, so I would be stuck with the kit lens for awhile. I also thought about going with a lower end rebel and getting 300-400$ lens as well but, would I be kicking myself in a year for not going with the t1i? is their a significant difference in image quality between them?

^ Actually thats a myth.
Here is the difference between canon and nikon. Both are excellent manufacturers of high quality photographic equipment amongst other things.
Nikon generally introduces their best technology on the highest end equipment therefore only a small segment of buyers get to try and use it before it filters down to there consumer lines.
Canon on the other hand introduces the newest technology on their consumer line cameras rebels etc and more people get to essentially test and comment on it before it gets refined goes to the high end cameras.
To answer your original question, once you buy a dslr be prepared to spend a fortune eventually on lenses, and other accessories. There is no cheap way out.

As far as the rebel vs t1i... go rebel, and used at that, body only. Unless you want the video ability, you won't notice much of a difference. Save as much money on the body as possible (without getting a broken one obviously) and put it towards a good lens. A canon 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 will get you the sharpness you want at a much lower price, but at the sacrifice of zoom. If you can, save up a bit and get the Canon 17-55, it may seem like a lot at first, but it is well worth it. I just got mine this summer and it's a world of difference over my otherwise very good 28-135 (which coincidentally a nice step up from the kit lens you would get with the rebel).
