Won't make me any less careful with my lenses, but that's nowhere short of amazing.

Incredible, and very unexpected. I expected to see a single scratch on the lens, not that sort of carnage.

Zipppyyy,

Just curious, but wouldn't the impact of any lens or significant particles on the lens be impacted by the focal length of the lens itself?

e.g. a 400mm lens can focus anywhere near the front elements, so its less likely to impact the image as compared to a 90mm macro where the focal point may be an inch or two in front of the element?

Thats hilarious.....

I had a similar experience at a big box store, when I was testing out a D300 and was trying to figure out why all the images were coming out slightly soft..

I looked inside the lens and the aperture blades were all bent, cracked, and some even missing!! But the images were still totally 4x6 printable...amazing!!
