2012 Edmonton INDY
Great day at the races! Installed an intercooler spray system for Dad this morning, then built a rear duct for his transmission cooler through the cabin in the afternoon (engine was running hot and the transmission was overheating). He qualified 1st in GTP-2 yesterday (6th overall) and won his class today, fending off two tube-frame 300ZXs for the last seven laps to take 1st in GTP-2 and 4th overall. Considering he hadn't driven the car as-is (new engine, new suspension, added a big rear wing, new front spoiler and a few new cooling items) until Tuesday of this week, it was a great result!
Man those GT3s were fast.
Yeah - GTP-2 was the race to watch after Peter and Harold had the little bump-and-run under the yellow flag in Turn 1, which basically allowed Peter (Subway GT3) to run away and then later get penalized an entire lap for his mistake. Those GT3s are set up so nicely, though - very neutral and their brakes are amazing as well. Harold's 964 is more powerful but it's not set up quite as well. He was down about 100 hp as well - the engine needed a rebuild but they couldn't get it done in time.
Dad was partially lucky - the two tube-frame Nissans started well back so that gave him some room to try and pull away early but the yellow flags pulled them right up to him again. He had to race them straight up and he managed to make it stick. His lap times were down another 1.5s compared to qualifying but theirs dropped as well, so it was pretty tight. In the end, they were faster through the corners but not fast enough to make a pass stick. The one time the blue Nissan got by him, Dad managed to beat him down the straight into Turn 1 and after that, he kept him behind him the rest of the way. The blue Nissan did dive in on Turn 13 on the last lap but he overcooked the corner and ended up giving away a spot...
