Anyone know have experience with importing a replica?
With the strong Canadian dollar, I'm looking at getting another toy from the US - but it seems the federal big brother is a real
er when it comes to replica cars now.
I've called and been told that I can't import a complete replica unless it's 15 years old (or older)
I'm not even supposed to be able to import replica parts and assemble it here (though it seems highly unlikely they could police this)
There has to be someway around this. I'm hoping maybe one of you knows, or knows someone who knows, you know?
The replica in question is available assembled or in parts, but only from US vendors. The govt has their panties in a bunch because there's no crash safety test down, but yet they'd let the same replica in if it were >15 years old. The replica in question is so light and small that the only person who'd have to worry is me and my passenger in the event of an accident...
Some days, I just want to shoot the red tape makers - but it seems they don't want me to have a gun either

Hey ws2000,
Here are a few leads that may get you in touch with a couple of guys who import two different makes of a GT40 replica. The guy importing the MDA replica apparently knows quite a bit about Canadian import laws. Might be worth while getting in touch with them.
Canadian MDA Dealer
Canadian CAV Dealer
Interestingly, the CAV dealer actually has a distributer in Calgary.
Chris.

I've been a huge fan of the GT40 since I saw it for the first time when I was a kid. Owning a replica has always been a dream of mine, especially CAV's newer full monocoque chassis. Someday...
Zahir does not have any of the cars here yet. I go by there quite abit. He found my NSX for me, which I have since sold. He has some spectacular exotics in his showroom and owns an F-40 (only one in Canada) and Diablo himself. I did a day trip with him and the exotic car club to Banff last summer in the NSX, lot's of fun !!
