Default best driving experience

with the recent spring like conditions feel like getting out there and driving but will to have wait for awhile longer so i thought a mind game would help. let me experience your most favorable trip. this might help out in planning for future trips.

I travel to the west coast at least once a year in the summer. Most of the time, I'm in rush to get out there, but every once in a while, I have all the time in the world. On those occasions, I like to travel the path less taken.
Most of us customarily get to Kamloops, then head for the Coquihalla. When I have time, I take the "old" way and approach Hope from the north. You turn off to the right just after Kamloops instead of staying on the main highway to Merrit. You quickly come upon some spectacular views of mountains and lakes and much less traffic. Here is a picture I took last time:

Then there is the Sunshine Coast from Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons to Powell River. The ferry rides themselves are worth the fares. Once, while over on the Island, I would head out to Port Alberni, then continue on to Tofino and/or Euclulet. Pictures don't even do this justice.

On the return leg, I take Logan's pass right at the end of the Coquihalla. This takes me to the Okanagan Valley where it takes me through Kelowna. From there to Sicamous is some of the best windy roads lined by beautiful lakes and mountains.

A little closer to home is one of our favourite late spring drives as a group: Hiway 1A to Seebe, backtrack on #1 to the Kananaskis hiway and over the Highwood Pass to Longview. When time is limited, we'll stop at the golf course restaurant for eats and everyone goes their separate ways from there.

just what the doctor ordered! thanks for posting the picture. looks and sounds great. will try that route. last year i didn't know it was you in golden but i really enjoyed the drive east of vernon through to naskup, caslo down to creston. some nice lakes and a couple of ferries also. i might be heading to sandpoint this spring for a very large car show and was told it is nice around there.

Check the AMA road report before you go. The Rogers Pass can be treacherous as late as April/May. Logan's Pass even in July can be covered with ice/slush.
