Bringing an S to the States....
Tried searching the archives but did not seem to find anything.
Anyone know if it is possible to bring a Canadian S2000 from Canada to the US? Any issues?
I know we have some cosmetic differences (colors), DRL's........maybe a difference rear bumper (some cars in Canada have a a sturdier bumper due to more stringent rear bumper requirements in Canada)......
Thanks,
Reijo

Should have all the information you need there. The S2000 is not listed as an eligible vehicle but there is a VSP eligibility that will allow that vehicle because a similar vehicle is already available in the US.

In fact, Honda is so well know for being non co-operative that the Canadian Registrar of Import Vehiles has a "work around" to get the necessary documentation. I was told that of all manufacturers Honda ranks as the #1 problem child.
Just make sure you have you ducks in a row before you export.

What problems did you have with American Honda with regards to documentation? They were extremely helpful when I needed the Recall Clearance letter from them to being the S up into Canada.
I was told by the service manager at Canadian Tire, when I was having the inspection done (CTC does the import inspections) that RIV has issued them a bulletin to the affect that Honda is causing problems as well.
I got the impression that Honda America was being a problem because when the dollar was low the were quite a number of cars making their way south cutting into US sales..
they seemed to have decided it was now payback time. That of course is pure speculation on my part, none the less, I do know that it seems to be common knowledge within RIV Honda are being a royal pain these days. Since RIV see's every car imported into Canada I have no doubt that they know which companies are being a problem.
Just got a call from American Honda and they are sending a compliance letter for my '03 S2000.
The S meets/complies with EPA and DOT standards except for some labelling requirements. These will be handled at the border according to the person who phoned/emailed me.
Therefore, if you want to get less for your car, you can bring it across the border. Just one snag.....my extended warrantee offered by Honda Canada does not transfer across the border however I can get a pro-rated amount back on that according to the message I got.
Can I sell it down there? That is another question to face some day should I decide to sell it......likely not.....I'll just add another toy when the time comes.
So, there you have it folks!

That good news. Buying cross boarder seems to be a bit more challenging. Where are you relocating in the states? I lived in Houston for a couple of years, it's great weather most of the year for top down driving.

I don't see why honda would be mad that Hondas are being imported into the states from canada. They make more money on a honda sold in canada then in the US. They have to be according to the exchange. I know importing cars into canada from the states is no problem, but the US may make it a problem to bring a canadian car into the states for unknown reasons.
