Default Burning Oil

I've read the S2000 burns quite a bit of oil. Currently I'm using Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W30. Last time I changed my oil was back in Dec. 10 at 39,500KM with 4.8L of oil. Now I'm at 42,500KM and I've added probably 1.75L of oil to compensate the oil burning.

Now, is that normal? I think it's pretty normal, maybe on the worse side, considering that's what I read in other threads. Should I switch over to 10W30 of the same brand?

I know there is a lot of threads on this, but I'm curious to what Canadians think since only we know our weather conditions and all that. We're just smarter, haha!

Depends on the car. I seem to remember that Honda told us up to a litre in 1000kms is ok. Depends on how it was broken in and how it gets run.

Oh yeah, and if you use thicker oil... 10w30... You'll likely burn a little less.

hard break-in (vtec after 60 km), switched to synthetic at first oil change... never burned any measurable amount of oil.

The F20C is known for burning a bit of oil. The 2.2 is not.

1.75L in 3k km is a little steep, but still within reason. As others have said, you could change to 10W30 and that should lessen the consumption, but I would like having the 5W for the cold winter starts. Change to 10W when it warms up.

Would 5w30 make a significant difference in cold start up ability compared to 10w30? I park indoors for the most part, can't park indoors when I'm at work, so would I expect a difficulty or difference in cold start up after a workday of 8 hours with 10w30?

For those who winter drive, what oil have you been using? Whether you change viscosity during winter and summer, what brand do you use for either conditions?

Do you use synthetic? If so, 10w30 is just fine. I've always ever used 10w30 and my s2000 has started at -35, not plugged in
