Default Canadian car pricing

My thoughts have been wandering lately toward the Corvette C6. A little research shows that while the U.S. base price for one of these cars is around $44,000.00. Taking the current US/Can. $ exchange rate, we get to a figure of about $1.23 Can. for a U.S. buck. So, this works out to be about $54,000.00.
Then you go to the Canadian GM site and the base price is around $67,000.00.
This can be noted in almost all car companies, not just GM. We, as Canadians are getting REEMED UP THE ASS BIGTIME by those thieving bastids.
No wonder guys like Nimesh (PLYRS3) in Toronto go down to the States to buy a car. He saved thousands. Just remember this the next time you hand over your hard earned money. It's helping that dealer principle live "up in the estates".

dave you have to look at each vehicle individually.

granted a vette is 67K up here in the tundra, but you will receive a hefty discount as well (as you will in the states). please add 5.1% to any converted value for the "value for tax" base.

this will allow you to compare apples to apples.

Well manufacturers can't exactly lower or increase their price when there are sudden or progressive changes in the exchange rate. We all know the CDN dollar has been appreciating relative to the U.S dollar for quite awhile now, remember when it was 1.5 CDN dollar for 1 US dollar? That $44K equates to $66K and this was what? Just a year or two ago? I wonder if it can get any lower? The lower it gets, no need to buy a car in Canada. haha

On a side note, this would be a GREAT TIME to buy lots of U.S currency and stash it aside somewhere.

Most Vette dealers here think the thing is made of platinum. Not much discounting on these cars.

This kind of reminds me of that new GM SSR.. the MSRP is 80K.. wtf? anyway, locally in Regina, all GM dealerships are selling for 59,900.. What the heck does this mean> Anyway, my thoughts are there are decent buys out there even in igloo land.

I can't believe people actually buy SSR's. I would categorize it with the new Ford Thunderbird. They have strong retro nuances, are overpriced and mediocre performers at best.

Dealer cost on the SSR is $57,500. My uncle owns a GM dealer, and my other uncle just got one from him last week.

They've been having a hard time selling at those outrageous prices (75-80k)

my brother-in-law in calgary just ordered a silver convertible C6 and will be trading in his C5...he said the difference is night and day plus 400 HP...he will be taking deliver in the spring after the roads are cleaned...they are very expensive loaded and new

i say keep your S2000 for a bit longer as it wont depreciate much more, then wait for a used C6 which will come down quite a bit in price

very nice car for sure
