Default Car Wash

When is the next time you guys are all going to get together to wax your cars?? I am just wondering about the process to take in order to protect it. What is Zaino?? I've been reading about it all around the forums but I have no idea what it is. And could I borrow some of this stuff because it seems like its very rare I want to buy whatever it is. Anyways, if any of you have free time and would like to help out, give me a PM thanks Sorry about the Friday situation, did'nt mean to make it so difficult for everyone. We have to all meet up soon though, just dieing to see all your nice cars.

No problem about Fri. Sh!t happens. We've had to cancel before. We'll try again another time.
Re: Zaino. This is not a wax. It is a polishing "system". I know for a fact that myself and 3 other members in our group use this stuff. It is not cheap but well worth the money. If you go to:
http://www.car-fanatic.com/htmlindex.htm
you'll see all the info you need including prices. The initial "base" layers involves at least 3 coats.
You must decide if you want to get the accelerator "ZFX". This will make the whole process much faster. Instead of 3-4 days, you'll be able to do the base prep in a day or two.
As for when we do group wash and polishing, we haven't been. We've all done the base steps as we took delivery of our cars. All that is left now is a periodic coat. Myself, I plan to do one coat every 6 months. I'm not sure what the other fellas are planning to do. I've heard some people zaino once a week. It DOES get shinier the more coats you put on but I'm just not anal enough to go nuts like this. They also say that after about 8-10 quick consecutive coats, it doesn't get any better and you're just wasting time and money.
First you must wash the car with dish soap. This will be the only time you'll use dish soap. Then you can clay bar the whole car if you like. Some say that is essential but I didn't. Then you wash the car again. Once dry you can either:

1. Z1, Z2 (or Z5 for swirls), Z6, Z2 (or Z5), Z6, Z2 (or Z5). (Z5 is more for darker cars where you would see the swirls more.)

OR

2. Do the Z2 (or Z5) PLUS ZFX, Z6, repeat 2 more times.

Read all about it on that web site and then decide which way you want to do it. The order from Guelph only takes about 1.5 weeks but if you are in a real big hurry, we can see if we have what you need.

A couple of us (Woodson and I) have the 3M Scotchcal film protectant on the front of our cars to guard against rock chips and the horrible winter roads we get here. You might consider something like this. If you are going to drive this car in winter, you'll need snow tires too.
Are you free only on weekends? I work this weekend but I do get certain weekdays off. Maybe some of the other fellas will see this and post.

I've gone the Zaino route. After 4 coats it has got gradually better. Mine is a tough colour to see results but the darker colour cars look like they are wet with Zaino.

It is a bit costly, you'll probably spend about 150 for all the materials but well worth it. I used the ZFX accelerator and got 2 base coats in one day then I add a layer about once a month. The more coats you have the easier it gets.

I was sold on the stuff after I saw Tim's red car with just one coat

I am just happy to out shine Silver Benzs

kewl thanks. I havn't had the chance to put all that stuff onto my car yet, I got it about 1 week ago yet so I guess it isn't bad. Would you boys mind if one day you can come and give me a hand. I don't know which Z product to use. I'm so confused with everything... I think whatever you guys use is all good for me because I'm sure you take care of your car as much as I want. I don't want to borrow that stuff without paying if it is that expensive. I'll just pay for each use until I get mine in and I can give you guys some of mine Well maybe this weekend, you can come help me do it cause I have no idea where to start. I want to do put that protector on my bumper too because when I was driving in the rain recently, the road had a lot of gravel. Who knows why hey ?? But yea, I will get back to you guys, got to get to bed. Night and thanks for the input.

Let us know what your time table is like and we'll check ours to see if anybody's match. As for borrowing "some", I'd be willing to do what I've already done for other members. If I have new full bottles of what you need, you can just have them. You order replacements and pay me back with those when you get them. This way, we don't have to worry about how much was used out of each bottle. You gotta decide which way you want to do it. If you need to meet with some of us to help you decide, that can be arranged. Nite.

The stuff is awesome. You should see how water beads on our cars.

This weekend is bad for me, but we could get together next week if you like to see how to do it. I was confused at first too, but once the steps are all laid out for you it's pretty simple.

There are different opinions on how to dry your car. Of the four owners that xviper was referring to, we all dry our cars differently.

As for the bumper protection, if you plan to drive your car in the winter like xviper and myself, I consider it a "must have".

Cheers.

Thanks a lot guys, tell me when a few of you guys are free and I'll meet up with you so you can show me how. Its so confusing, I don't know which is what and what is which. I'm free lots so just give me a time. Am I allowed to drive the car after like the first coat or do I have to let it sit in the garage and wait??

It's no problem driving the car between coats. You just have to wash and dry it if it gets dirty. If you use ZFX then you can do 2-3 coats in less than a day. If you don't use it, then you need Z1 and then the other Z (2 or 5). In this case, you're best to do one coat in the evening and take it off the next morning, then another coat that evening, wait till next morning, etc till you have 3 coats. Z1 is NOT considered a coat.
I won't have anymore days off till next Tues. but I could meet with you briefly on Sunday for a burger or something to explain to you what you need to order. You really do need to take a good look at that web site I posted earlier.

well hmm... what are you all oding this weekend?? Do you use that Aerospace 303 on your convertible tops?? I'm not sure which to get for that either. Wow, I'm so clueless about how to take care of my car, its kind of embarassing. But I will learn in time just like you guys. Give me a time when you are free and I will come and meet up. I should be able to come to that long drive because I'm up to almost 700k on my car. So good stuff, anyways, this system protects the paint a bit too right ? For the gravel protection, does it protect a lot or is it just a little prevention thing?

I use low-gloss ArmourAll on the top 2X a year. As I said, I'm free for a burger on Sunday lunch. Just say the word.
Yes, Zaino is a polishing system for the paint. The 3M film covers your front bumper, front part of the hood and the front of both mirrors. You can also get to protect the lower rocker panels if you like. It is a permanently installed product that can be peeled off at any time like when you are ready to sell the car.
