Default Damn rock chips

Before the drive, one rock chip..

After the drive, a dozen or so. Two close together what look like pieces of metal embedded in the bumper A very small outer layer of the bumper actually got "pushed", creating a "wave" and the metal being in there May look like bug splatter from far so those two are visible.

I have 2 options:

1. Just go get the bumper and headlights 3m'd

2. Repaint the bumper then go for a 3m..

What to do?

How much on avg will 3ming the front bumper and headlights cost?

It's always best to repair any damage before putting on the 3M. No point sealing in the chip unless they are quite minor.
To do the front of the car, you're looking at around $500.00 - $600.00

I haven't actually handwash the car when I got back; I just took it to the local car wash bays due to time constraints. I think some "rock chips" may be more like bug stains; I'll find out when I actually handwash the car.

But the metal pieces, ugh makes my heart ache...

I have no idea where the metal pieces would come from. I don't think anyone else has reported these. Are you sure?
If there are chips on the front bumper, just run with those till you get more, then repaint the whole front bumper before putting the 3M on.

Don't 3M the bumper until you get it repainted. Mine is in really bad shape. I'm just going to hold off until I repaint the front end or the whole damn car.

clean it fully off to see if they are actually chips. If they are chips, touch paint them up and then put the 3M on. I wouldn't think it is serious enough to repaint the bumper. Suzuka blue is pretty tough to match so if you paint it, the front bumper might be off colour a bit.

Judging by the far distance you follow from a front car, I don't think the chips are anything serious.

I regretted not 3M the front bumper and now it's scratched to hell. I'll probably wait until after winter before I fix it up.

All I can say is "Damn Alberta roads"

It just doesn't matter how careful you are, or how far you follow the vehicle in front of you, they are bound to happen. Of the dozen or so chips I have on the Tundra, at least 10 were caused by vehicles travelling in the opposite direction on a two way road.

okok...

Now that I open up my eyes a little bit bigger, turns out that the "black" piece is actually the bumper itself!!! The clear coat, paint, AND primer actually got chipped away. Must have been a very good impact on that spot of the bumper by some object.

*sigh*...mmm...u think I can take like a 1000 grid paper and try sanding it down and do the usual paint touch up procedure?

I dropped by a local autodetailing place this morning before work...

$90 just for headlights
$190 for half a bumper plus part hood plus the headlights
$350 or so for the whole bumper incl chin plus headlights plus hood

Sound resonable?
