Finally got me a new windshield.
Well last year, I went shopping for quotes on a non-insurance claim price for a replacement windshield. I was shocked to discover with all taxes, etc, the price came to over $900.00.
While on duty this week, I happened to venture into the Crystal Glass in Bowness and found that they give a heavy discount to those who work in the neighbourhood. I ended up going out the door with a new windshield for 1/2 of what I was quoted last year. This was also for a PPG windshield, which I understand is a bit tougher than the OEM one. They were also able to re-use the old rubber seal, saving me the Honda price of another $150.00. It took 2 hours and I waited for the car while I did some window shopping along Bowness Rd. They even let me drive the car in and out of the shop and I am very happy with the results.
I'm not saying that anyone off the street can get this price but my point is that even at the price they sold me this piece, they are able to make money. I can only imagine what a mark-up they put on those things when it's an insurance claim.
ps. The cheapest quote I found was last week from Moore's Auto Glass at $650.00 plus tax (seal kit extra).

That's kinda why I posted it here rather than in "UTH". I was going to take my camera and document the whole process, but then I thought maybe the glass guy would get ticked off with me hovering over him, so I changed my mind.
Your windshield IS weak. Yours is of lighter thinner glass than other Hondas in order to save weight! (Yes, I'm serious)

I should do some research and find the toughest tempered glass.

I stumbled upon this new glass insurance coverage that isn't through your auto insurance. I have to double check the name of the company at home, but its $166 per year, with a $50 deductible for a new windshield.
I figured that when the windshield is usually in that $600-700~ area, even if I only do a new windshield every 2 years, it's well worth it.
Also, claims on this coverage will NOT affect your auto insurance.
