Bigstar: I feel for ya. Happened to me in fall of 2003 as some of you probably recall!

hopefully the police can track this individual for you.
We are leaving in a dream world if we think the cops are going to do anything!!!

Unless you have a witness, do you think they really care about who the idiot is that hit your car? They're not going to attend to your car and do some pink panther detective work.

Same with car break-ins. You call them and all they say is there's nothing they can do and tell you to go to the nearest police station and file a useless report.

I'm speaking from past bad experiences

Unfortunately even so called honest individuals feel the need to walk away from property damage.
This week I dealt with a customer who was trading in her car on a newer model. She was waiting for a Reverend to pay for the damages he caused in a parking lot incident. He was caught by a bystander leaving the scene.!! The good news is he finally paid for the damages and a fine of $450.00 for hit and run.

My fiancees's 2002 VW Golf was hit twice in the same parking lot by two different people within a two week period back in December !! Talk about bad luck. The first Guy backed into her drivers side quarter panel with a new Ford F-350 Superduty doing $2300 worth of damage, the second lady backed into the front of her car with a Chrysler Cirrus and did $600 worth of damage. Luckily both good samaritans left notes under her wiper blade and covered all costs. I feel for you, that is a pisser.

Looks like insurance will cover it with no increase in my rates, just the $250 deductible

Estimate is about $1200. Unfortunately since my 3M is slightly yellowed, I'll need to get it all redone, or have 2 tone 3M. Over due anyway I guess.

how long did that process take?
Well, I was lucky. I worked in the firehall at the time where there was also a police community office. I knew the cop that worked there. Since he knew me, he contacted the offender by phone while I was in the office filling out my report. She wasn't home at the time. After I left, he drove to her house and confronted her. She phoned me within an hour to say she'd pay up. I had to go to a couple of body shops to get estimates, then I made up my "bill" and met with her to give her my documents. She went home to talk to her husband and they decided to bypass the insurance. She paid me cash within a few days.
ps. The cop was going to charge her with leaving the scene after causing damage. He said that if she "settled" up with me, he'd "lose" the case file.
