Default I hate dealerships!

BEGIN RANT

Took the car into Calgary Honda...wait I will tell you what happened before that.

I took the car to a shop that is run by a friend and asked him to scan the computer for any codes because the check engine light (sorry maintenance required) has been flashing when starting the car for about a week. The car has been running great but as soon as he hooked it up he tells me that it is saying that there has been multiple misfires. He then says 'isn't this thing still under warranty?' and I say 'yes, but I thought you might be able to figure things out for me quicker.' He tells me to take it to the dealership and let them deal with it since it is still under warranty.

OK, so I take it and leave it at Calgary Honda and they call back saying they think it is a bad tank of gas so I should burn it dry and if the code comes back they will take a closer look.

Bill comes to $110.xx. WTF???

I really don't think I should be paying for this. Anybody here have anything that might be useful when I go in there tomorrow and tell them to shove it?

END RANT

Don't pay it. OMFG. That is so ridiculous they should be ashamed of themselves. My sister's Impreza had a CEL problem, brought it in, dealer fixed it, end of story.

A hundred and ten bucks for a bad tank of gas? Hmmm. I don't think I'd be able to sleep at night if I were charging that sort of thing for that kind of diagnosis. Mind you, the soothing feel of lying on a mattress made entirely of money does have a bit of an insomnia-fighting effect...

Good luck with your fight, I think that's a bit much.

Alright, first off... if the maint. req'd light was flashing, that's just a dummy light to remind someone to change their oil.

You can reset it very easily, the instructions are in the manual.

If that light comes on, nothing is wrong with your car... it's just a reminder service.

As for the misfire codes... burn off the gas, put in a good quality 91 (Esso, Shell), reset the ECU, and then drive the car.

The dealership had a slight miscommunication between the service department and the actual tech looking at the car. The tech was trying to diagnose a 'check engine' light while I told them that the 'maint req'd' light was flashing when I started the car.

When the service guy found that out (after a lot of argument over the bill) he said that the codes were probably old and didn't have anything to do with anything. He took care of the bill and told me to read the owners manual when I get a chance (even though I don't know where the damn owner put it).

He still won't sell it to me yet. He just lets me take it out when I ask nicely.

It will be mine though, oh yes, it will be mine.

Hmm crappy dealerships make me nervous My car's former owner here in Redmond WA referred me to a great mechanic, but when I bring it back to Calgary I'm unsure of where I'll get my baby serviced.. I'm afraid lotboys will be too tempted to take a SC'ed S2k out for a joyride.

T&T honda will take good care of your car.

From now on I'm taking mine to Yellowhead Honda to have Gary work on it, though. He's the man! Unfortunately they're up in Edmonton.

Thanks for the kind words, Dylan. It's always a pleasure to see you!

I know Dave at T&T quite well and if I were having a car serviced there, would recommend him without hesitation.
