Default Need advice on a second vehicle

I'm throwing around the idea of buying a second vehicle. I'll still drive my S2000 year-round, but I'll be limiting the amount of driving I do in inclimate weather (I'll still mount my winter tires and drive it on decent winter days, though).

I'm thinking my budget will be at a max. of $15,000.

I'm not sure if I should maybe do a 1/2 ton truck or if I should just do another car.

What would you do if you were in my position?

Well, since you're a new homeowner you'll be making a lot of trips to home improvement
places like HD and perhaps Revelstoke, a pick up truck would be the most practical
way to go. Besides you already have a fun car to drive around. You'd need to have something
to kick some dirt and sh!t around.
Oh, 4x4 would be an added benefit too! (How about a PORSCHE CAYENNE TURBO! ?)

good luck

Of all the trucks I've been offroading in, the Toyota Tacoma 4x4 has been the most impressive for a fully stock truck. That sucker just keeps going and going and seems impossible to get stuck. Hell, we even used it one time to pull an H2 Hummer out of one hell of a mud hole in Waiparous, then processed to blast through the same hole over and over. When my 240 finally gives it up, I can see a Tacoma in my future.

Chris.

Yeah I've been tempted to get a Tacoma or Tundra actually.

If things go really well I'll probably lease a brand new truck (but most likely a domestic since the lease deals on a 12 to 24 month lease are so damn good)

Yah I suggest getting a truck of some sort. I regret not picking up a 4X4, instead I have two sport coupes. Both are rather useless when I need to haul stuff.

You'll be hard pressed to find a used Tundra for $15K, however a lease on a new one might not be a bad idea. AWD/4WD is certainly a consideration for a second vehicle given where we live.

Ask yourself what the vehicle will be used for? How many miles are you planning on putting on it ? A healthy V8 will cost you an arm and a leg on gas, given rising fuel costs. Why not consider something smaller...a sport-cute perhaps?

If you don't really need a truck, I've recently seen Sunfires advertised for 11 Thou and change. And they aren't garbage as some would have you believe. You can beat the crap out of those little cars and they just keep going. You lose almost 10 grand in a couple years on most sporty cars like the S. You could drive a Sunfire into the ground over a lot of years, throw it away and still be ahead of the game. My daughter bought a used Cavalier a few years ago. It has cost her next to nothing since - gas, tires, thermostat and a rad flush.
You already have a show piece in the S. Does it matter what your second car is as long as it goes?

How about my 911 C4 . The AWD system is a direct derivative of the 959's. Many people in Europe (and North America) who drive their 964 C4's in the winter simply humiliate Trucks/SUV's in the snow.
