Default New S2K Owner in Calgary

I pick up my new s2000 in the less than 24hrs, so I thought I'd introduce myself to this forum and its members. I'm 23 and live in calgary, alberta. I've been reviewing s2ki.com for the last month or so building up to my purchase, and I must say, all the information here was very helpful in making my final decision. I was originally shopping for something along the lines of a '91 NSX or a '93 RX-7, but was advised that spending that kind of money on 10+ year old car would be a mistake. I narrowed my choices down to a 350z or the S, wasn't overly impressed with the Z, and thought it might be the next dime a dozen car (plus the salesman wouldn't let me sit in it while the engine was running, thought I'd steal it!). In the end, I bought a 2003 white/blue with a total of 17km on it .

I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys on how to break in the engine properly, and maybe some general tips/tricks on car care. I have it insured for 4 days, then I put it in the garage for another month or so until summer rolls around (if it ever does) .

As far as mods go, I don't think I'll be doing anything to the engine, since one of my main reasons for buying new was the 5yr warranty. I'm getting an audiovox paging alarm, a new deck, possibly sony, and a custom 10" sub box in the "spare tire" spot in the trunk. (I know the spare tire isn't actually there but it looks like it should be). Come summer I want to put some 19" Axis Hagen rims on it. When I was searching to see if anyone else had those wheels, I found redlineNYC's ride, and it looks great.

I'd appreciate any comments/feedback/criticisms/greets etc. Thanks!

Welcome! Nice colour combo!

Are you sure you want to do an audiovox paging alarm? I'm a big fan of the Compustar. Whats the price on that audiovox, installed... just out of curiosity?

Nice choice of rims... those will look great!

Welcome. Keep her under 6000 rpm till 1000kms and watch the oil level.

Other than that the wait till spring is a long one. It was about this time of year last year that I picked mine up.

Welcome! The only colour we were missing from our photos!

Do a search for break-in procedures. Check your oil EVERY time you fill up.

Wait to talk to BlackS2000 and myself before you buy any stereo equipment.

What dealership did you get it from?

Thanks koala, I think the blue interior looks great too.

My choice of the audiovox over the compustar was made because of more features and a lower price by about $100. The main feature that made me choose audiovox was the vibrating remote, plus it had other cool gimmicks like car temperature, time, adjustable sensor via remote, and parking meter timer. My best friend works at the place I'm buying it, so its gonna cost about $500 installed.

Thanks for the break in tip FormerH22a4, keeping it under 6000rpm is gonna be so tough! When I test drove the car, I asked to take the one I wasn't buying, so I could 'bag' it, not that I did .

Welcome neighbour! Hope you'll be able and interested in coming to some of our meets and drives. Keep an eye on this forum for announcements about those. I'll put you on my "buddy list" so that you'll get a group PM from me when such events occur. If you allow email notification when a PM is sent to you, you'll know that there is one. We usually start a new thread but I send all the Calgary owners a PM with a link to that thread.
Check out the "wash and wax" forum for helpful hints on how to take car of the new beast. Zaino seems to be a favourite amongst owners.

Welcome fellow Calgary owner! It's always a pleasure to see our local family grow. Breaking in tips seem to have been covered pretty thoroughly in the FAQs as well as plenty of other threads, so I won't flog that dead horse anymore.

Checking your oil at every fill up is extremely important; moreso for the first 1000K. I found that my car used little oil up until 1000K, and then a couple of litres sporadically between 1000-2000KM. Forget the sales manager's incessant whining that you purchase the "paint protection" and go for the Zaino treatment instead. Yes it's pricey and somewhat labour intensive, but the results are outstanding. Check out the wax and wash forum for more info, or better yet, I'll be willing to lend a hand in the summer.

While I don't drive my car in the winter, many local folks do. Invest in a good set of winter tires if youre planning on taking the car out even on the nicest of winter days. Having said that, our SO2s can be pretty scary while they are cold even in the middle of summer. Even on warm days with dry roads, make sure you warm up the tires a little before partaking in some "spirited" driving.

Other than that, good luck and enjoy! I'm excited that we finally have a respresentation (on the forum) of at least every single colour here in Calgary.

Happy motoring
Asif
