Default Signing off

After 12 years, an AP1 and an AP2, I'm signing off.

Last Fall I picked up a 2012 Porsche Cayman S, and the S2000 started collecting dust in the garage. Recently my GF decided she REALLY likes the Porsche as her daily driver, so I sold the S2000, and did a custom order for a 2014 Boxster S that will be here in a few weeks.

Today I got notice that my S2KI membership has expired...and rather than renewing, I'm checking out. I loved both my S2000s, and this was a pretty cool place for a lifelong car nut to hang out, especially in the early years. If anyone ever wants to locate me for any reason, you can find me over on planet-9.com.

BTW, the S2000 went to a good home...a 20-something young man who truly appreciates the car, and is planning to get out to the first autocross weekend where the sun has a chance of shining.

Heh, I remember you posting about buying the Cayman, and that it would just remain a stablemate to the S2k!

I have lately caught the Porsche fever as well, and it has even overcome my desire for a C63 (although that sentiment changes on a seemingly weekly basis). I'm hoping to get into a 997 C2S ASAP....but until then, my S2k will stay as is.

Guess I'm not signing off LOL. I had "auto renew" checked
While a 997 C2S rocks, the new Boxster S is AMAZING. I didn't think there was any 2-seat roadster that could replace the overall feel and composure of the S2k, but the 981 BS knocked my socks off. With the manual gearbox, it's a worthy successor to the Honda.

UPDATE: Was back here looking for info on the Chaserace and other S2K hitches (the S2k is still in the family and the new owner wants to transport snowboards). As amazing as the new 981 Boxster S is, when the 2014 I ordered arrived in August, I "declined" delivery. Porsche dropped the Platinum Silver color starting with the MY 2014, and replaced it with Rhodium Silver. It was supposed to be a pure silver, without the brownish undertones in Platinum Silver, and all the info Porsche Canada had supported that notion. My Boxster was the very first car that arrived at the dealership in Rhodium, and it was....ummm, awful. In daylight, it looked light blue to my eye rather than silver, and I just couldn't imagine looking at it every day and thinking "yuck." The dealer was great and offered to do whatever I wanted. In my mind, the only two options were to order another Boxster S in GT Silver, or buy a 911. As luck would have it, they had a kick-ass, one-owner 2011 911 GTS with a 6-speed and Aerokit on the lot that had been purchased there and traded on a Panamera GTS. With 408 hp it slots in power-wise between the Carrera S and the GT3. All GTSs have some trick bits, such as forged centerlock wheels, sport exhaust, PASM and Sport Chrono. I've put around 7000 km on the car since August...currently I'm ripping around in it on Dunlop WinterSPort SP 3D winter tires. So far, an awesome ride.

Wow - nice upgrade! I'm looking at 2009+ C2S (or C4S, if need be) for my next ride as I don't even want to have to think about an IMS failure on those cars. I really want the 981 Cayman S but I don't want to take the depreciation hit of a brand new car (or nearly new). That GTS looks fantastic - love the wheels and the aerokit. I'm also hoping for an aerokit but they're tough to find - expensive option and most owners don't want/need it.

I think 09+ 997s will prove to be VERY desirable used Porsches in the next few years...much like 993s are today. The 991s are immensely capable cars, but pretty much devoid of the quirks - good and bad - that made 911s icons. While IMS failures are rare in 07+ 997 s and 987s, I agree that getting an 09+ version with the 9A1 engine is the way to go. As for the Aerokit...well, it changes the car. It looks good all the time, and at higher speed (120k/hr or more) the downforce is noticeable and confidence-instilling.
