So I go to Calgary Honda and ask to buy Honda's brand of silicone grease for my window/convertible top rubber seals...the guy tells me that they don't sell it over the counter but they do have it and use it only when a customer comes in with their car. Ya like I will just make an appointment. Another X against dealerships. The guy was good enough to give me a very used tube (maybe one jobs worth) of the Shin-Etsu Silicone Grease for free.

So as xviper has suggested, I went to GM and got their brand of Silicone Emulsion. The part # is 10953014 which comes in a 50 ml bottle with a very handy applicator(I ended up using my finger, much faster). The cost is cheap at $6.89 taxes included. I would recommend buying 2 of these small bottles if you are planning to cover every rubber seal on your car. On my next application, I want the tube verses the bottle.

I went to a local Honda dealership a couple weeks ago asking for it. The parts guy is like "where did u hear it from". I go "internet". He goes "i always hear the techs asking for it. i don't have it in stock and i don't have a part # or price either. I'll give u a call tomorrow". He never did

Guess i'll just get the GM stuff

This might be a silly question... but, can anyone describe where to apply this stuff? Do I want to apply it where the windows roll up... that sort of idea?

You are on the right track. I applied the lube to all rubber seals...my soft tops seals, door seals, trunck seals, and rubber on top of the windshield when top is down. After you put the stuff on, wipe off all of the white stuff.

I sometimes use Lexol Vinyl, Plastic, and Rubber conditioner. Seems to do well although does not last nearly as long as an actual grease

50 BUCKS A TUBE!!!???
For that kind of money, it had better have specs of gold in it.
So..................... let's see ........................ Honda grease - $50.00 or GM Silicone Emulsion - $7.00?????? Give me a fraction of a nanosecond to think that one over.
OK, GM it is.

BTW, don't let anyone tell you, "But the Honda Shin-Etsu grease is used sparingly and will last a very long time." I use the GM stuff sparingly too and I've had the same bottle for the last 15 years. It's now just getting near empty.

Gary, this is NOT a slight on you in any way, just a bit of a jab for those anal retentive owners who absolutely MUST use the genuine Honda grease.
