Default Solo 2/Autocross in Red Deer - Sun. Aug. 15, 04

Might be a bit late but if you happen to be around, there is a Calgary Sports Car Club solo 2/autocross/slalom at the Westerner Park in Red Deer tomorrow (Sun. Aug. 15, 2004)........tech/registration at 8-9:45 am......run 'till about 3-4 pm....and likely some fun runs as well.

Dunno if Mike will be there but I will.....altho' I'll be running the Miata (blue) in C/SS....but will likely take some fun runs in the S2000!

C'mon out.....spectate (great view on the hill)....hang out....talk cars....compete....ride along...etc.......the S2000 is a dominant car in its class and makes for an excellent autocross vehicle! There should be something like 60-70 vehicles competing.

I would have come, with earlier note, also need track tires, the original S02 are done after 16,000km and 4 track events.
Thanks for posting Reijo !

Yes, the CSCC events are quite the organization these days.....the July 10/11 Stampede Motorsports Weekend drew approximately 80 competitors. Computers are used for timing/scoring and there is a lot of action going on.

Today was a great event......with some elements from the Seattle/Bremerton National Tour (July 24/25, 2004) in the course design by Ambrose which made it quite interesting......on a large lot (the Westerner Grounds are approx. 1/4 mi. wide x 575 deep at its deepest point so lotsa room)....competitors from Red Deer, Calgary and Edmonton (I overheard 56 in number but that was unofficial). Weather held out and it was warm although overcast (better for sunburn anyway).

FTD in the official runs (4) was held by Alan Rae in his C-Mod Caterham Super 7 at about 50.590 seconds with Daryl Evans close behind in his newly acquired monster of a modified formula 2 (open wheel race car anyway....that's been altered significantly from original and a V-8 aluminum block Land Rover/GM thrown in there.....1103 lbs wet with approx. 300 hp and 14" wide slicks in the back and a huge wing on top!......sound scarey? Yes, it sounds scarey just idling, waiting to run!) Daryl did manage to catch and beat Alan by 9/100's of a second on the fun runs though......think he has to spend a bit more time in the car....much more powerful than his previous solo 2 mount - an '86 RX7 with a Chev 350 ci V-8 and something like 380 hp.....

My time in the Miata was 53.2+ sec. which was good for 3rd fastest of the day with Ryan in the same car close behind at 53.3+ sec. Taking a couple of fun runs in the S2000 (after pumping up the tires) with passengers netted 55.1 and 55.3 second runs with stock tires and no alterations to the factory delivery auto....pretty good car!

I'm sure there will be more posting at the CSCC forum if you are interested including photos. I saw a number of cameras on-site. Mine is broke and I bought a new one except that the battery was not charged yet so I can't post any.

Next week I'll have the S2000 at Eau Claire Market on Wed. Aug. 18 (6 am to 9 pm) along with a few other cars including a couple of formula cars - Daryl's monster and Brian's Formula Atlantic. Global TV is planning on doing a couple of interviews on the Breakfast show with Cara Fullerton and the Noon Hour Show with Leslie Horton. You are all welcome to drop by.....Brewster's is across the street! :^)

The Wed. is the pretech and car show preceeding the Canadian Autoslalom - Western Championship (CAWC) on Friday/Saturday/Sunday - Aug. 20/21/22 at the same lot in Red Deer. More information is here:

http://cscc.speedracer.ca/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1496

If you wish, you can even enter! No experience is required! :^) We are expecting competitors from Winnipeg to Vancouver for that one with approx. 90-100 competitors - our biggest event of the year. C'mon out! You're welcome!
