Actually, I'm a big fan of the multanova. No demerits, no insurance hike, and they're painfully obvious, especially when they can't ding you until you're past them. Sure beats coming over the crest of a hill and getting nailed by laser.
Here in Winnipeg we have several red light cameras that are enabled for photo radar as well as five (I think) mobile units.
It's not too much of a problem because the intersections are well posted from every direction, even though only one direction is equipped with the camera.
You have to be pretty foolish to blast through one of these lights when they are posted that well but they still make a lot of revenue.
In Manitoba, legislation is in place that only allows photo radar nearby parks, playgrounds, schools and construction zones. The key word is "nearby".
There are still problem areas on our ring roads that theoretically can not be patrolled in this manner because the above conditions do not exist.
