Hey everyone,

I just recently mounted my winter wheels/tires. At certain speeds (mostly between about 50-80 kph), the steering wheel vibrates... enough that if i take my hands off the wheel, it kinda goes left to right, half an inch each way...

What would cause this? Would anyone be willing to drive it for me to see if they know what it might be?

The wheels were only recently balanced... so I'm fairly sure thats not it. Checked the tire pressures and they're all 32 (cold).

Sounds like they are out of balance. I would take them back and have them re-balanced. It wouldn't be the first time wheels were balanced incorrectly.

they are most likely unbalanced.

If you get an inexperienced balancer, he may forget that the wheel must not only be balanced "radially" (ie. weights put on at different positions of the "clock") but also be balanced on the correct side of the zero offset line. I've seen them go to put on a weight, but because perhaps the valve stem was in the way or something like that, the guy just put the weight on the back side of the rim thinking that will do the trick.
Also, if the guy was too lazy to take all the old weights off first, then there becomes waaaaay too many weights on the wheel as a whole and it will be very hard to get it right.
Another problem could be the way the wheels were put on. Did they just impact wrench the nuts on? If so, they may have warped your rotors.

Oh, and who was it? I'll make sure I don't get near that place.

Nope I put the wheels on myself (I'm extremely careful and have done this many many times)... and I checked the torque ratings with my roommates digital torque wrench... all were within a few lbs of 80...

it was Canadian Tire up at 64th ave. I wont be going back there either since those assholes scratched the crap out of my RSX wheels (my winter wheels for the s2k)...

I'll just go to kaltire and pay them to balance them correctly because i actually trust those guys.
