I'm signed up, but I'm hoping to bring my Saab. Anyone else?

The wife and i are both signed up. The S is going to get a good workout, i guess. Unless it rains; then we'll have to use a backup

ANy idea how stringent they are on the battery tie down tech item? I've emailed and left a voicemail for the organizer, Mike whatever, but no response. My Saab has the battery in the trunk in a marine battery box. No metal tie down, but the box is bolted in and there is a nylon strap holding the box together.

The suby is gonna be there whether it rains or shines, as my wife needs to drive it to get there. So i figure i'd rather try that out if it rains rather than possibly having an off-track venture and having to scrape my car off one of the walls. It's also my wife's first time on any type of road course (and only my third) so i'd rather she not start in the rain with the S. Oh, last excuse, my rear tires are almost devoid of tread.

Besides, who is the real wimp here? The guy going to the event and letting his wife drive his pride and joy, or the guy not going at all?

Wow, while Tech for the event may pass that, why would you ever drive like that? I don't mean it as a dig, I sincerely mean, why would you have a roughly 20 pound chunk of lead, plastic and acid sitting in a flimsy plastic box. If you're in a relatively minor collision, let's say 8G of decelleration (it takes roughly 10G to trip and airbag), will the nylon strap be able to hold the 160lbs of force that the battery will put against the strap? If it doesn't, how hard will that battery hit? Even if it doesn't hit you, what if it hits your cage and splits, spraying acid all over the inside of the car?

Of all the cars I've pitted for a couple of them had batteries in boxes when I started. None of them ever turned a wheel until the battery was properly secured.

Sorry if I sounded like I was ranting, or taking a dig at you, but that's a REALLY SERIOUS safety issue, and being struck by a flying battery or spray of acid would really ruin your day.

Cheers,
Gar

I finally got a response from them, they figured it'd probably be okay as long as the box was secure. Not to take any chances, I've since purchased a metal tie down thingy from Princess for $4 and just need to drill a couple holes and done!
