sure sign of spring?
our local weather conditions are in the freezing mark with a midday high of minus 3. the side roads are still rutted and there is sanding chips everywhere. still lots of snow. so you can imagine my surprise when i saw today an older male driving his fully dressed goldwing down a major road here. i'll give him the benefit of doubt that he had a very good reason for doing this but wow!. i wonder if he plays with matches. usually ever year somebody here has their vehicle washed in the lake.
i usually associate this kind of behavior with spring and how it changes our attitudes but i have to say this is stretching it.

I'm a motorcyclist from waaaaaaay back. It's only since the S2000 came along that I got rid of my last bike due to infrequent use.
Some motorcyclists are a weird breed. Some may call them freaks. They ride all year round regardless of road conditions. I've even known some to put on "knobbies" for snow use. One guy even bragged that he only missed one day of riding in a given year and that was because the snow was just a bit too deep.
For all you know, this guy may be one of those and you just happened to see him that day. He may be out every day. It would be nice if "bikers" could be as reliable as the groundhog and if your sighting heralds the coming spring. It's too bad that some of them are just plain nuts.
ps. I was one such flake myself once upon a time.

We NEED spring to come. The roads in red deer are an absolute joke this time of the year. I'm suprised my front lip is still in one piece driving down my street.
I guess it also doesn't help that my street has construction traffic all the time, so they wear down those huge ruts... when I'm trying to drive up on top of everything.
Anyway, I'll add my crazy bike story real quick. Last winter when I was still in Calgary, my roommate took his bike out in the middle of February, after just getting back from Chile... I'm suprised he got home alive. Did I mention our driveway had about a 6 degree incline, and he had to ride up that thing on sheer ice?

i also had a street bike that i heavily modifed and would at times push the cabin fever release button with. i traded that style for motocrossing which i still do on occasion. i just recognized this individuals courage.
when i use to live in edmonton i always said to myself that the first thing i would do if i lived in cowtown i would get a bike again. i was really toying with the idea of having another bike but settled on the "s" when i recalled ALL the experiences.
