TV prices are constantly dropping, you price one out now, by the time your house is ready, it might be 50% off. LOL

My Plasma retailed at $6300, I purchased it on Dec 21 for $5300 and thought I got a sweet deal. Boxing day it went on sale for $5000, thank god for price protection!

What do you guys think of extended warranty? Will you buy it regardless? Depends on the size of the TV? I picked up a 3 year all inclusive warranty for my TV but it was $800. I got suckered but I couldn't help but think how can I cheap out for less than a dollar a day for the warranty. hmmm......

J, also factor in prices of upgrading your audio/video wires, whether you need a power box, wall mount etc. things add up quick!

Good point. Those HDMI/DVI cables will kill you if you buy at the electronics stores. Chris put me onto Alberta Computer Cables in the NE. They are literally a fraction of the cost of what Future Shop or Visions, etc. will hose you for them. For example, $200.00 to $300.00 for your typical HDMI/DVI cable from Future Shop and less than $30.00 from ACC.

Also, wall mounts are a killer from them as well. They are freakin' highway robbers. Here's a source that is far more reaonable:

Locally, you're looking at from $200.00 to as high as $500.00 for a stupid wall mount.

They gotcha by the short and curlies.

slightly related...

anyone know where I could get a deal on the Denon AVR-3806? I can get it from the US for under $1300 CAD including shipping/duty/etc.

But I'd rather buy locally of course. Tried A&B sound yesterday here in red deer but the lowest they'd go is $1498 including GST. $200 more isn't that bad... but hey, it's $200!

I returned my Monster HDMI cable after finding out there was virtually no difference between that and the one that came with my Panasonic DVD player. The salesguy was telling me how I needed to upgrade. LOL

I did opt for the Monster Audio & Video wires which are a pretty penny but at least there's a difference with that (unless my mind is just making me want to believe that). LOL

I checked the cost of my wall mount on that site, it's $207USD and mine retailed here for $500, at least I made them throw in the installation!

The thing is that when it comes to digital connections, it doesn't really matter how "good" they are. If the data isn't transmitted perfectly, it just wont work.

But I do believe in spending more money on the high end analogue cables, just because things like interference come into play.

I just placed an order with alberta computer cables for an hdmi to dvi cable and a straight hdmi cable... under $70 including shipping.

Would have cost me $250-300 minimum for those two cables at a box retailer.

A deal at 10 times the price.

I just recently bought a 42" LCD for just under $2500. 1366x768 resolution, 1600:1 contrast ratio, and a response time of 8 ms. If you're lucky, maybe by June you'll be able to get a 1920x1080 for the same price.
