Default went to the track

i have always wanted to do 1/4 mile.... i know i know s2000's are not drag cars...
but i did it...
first time ever at any track... damn nerve racking! first run.... i went past the start line by a bit... then i started in the wrong gear... (that was stupid)
i ran a 17.799....haha... horrible
after that i ran pretty consistant 15.387-15.6.... i was trying to launch it at 4000... realized that didnt work.. brought it up to 7... worked better... then up to 8 and above and got my best time.... its weird though... i was having really good launches up high, but then the rpms would just drop back down to 4000, i dont know what that is, but i was pretty dissapointed with my times.... oh well!
just thought i would share my experience... next time i want to join the auto x... but wont know what im doing there either, and thats where my car is suppose to shine

oh yeah .... the announcer was hyping my car up, the crowd was expecting really good times too.... my gf was in the stands... and when i ran the first two runs... everyone was dissapointed.. they think the s2000 is like a car that runs 13's or something

hopefully some of u s2000 prairie people have beaten my time, cause it sucked

11.80 @ 129 MPH.

...

On a 1000cc motorcycle!!

Actually, I figure I may have to give the autocross a try too. Last time I was there, I checked it out and that looked fun as hell.

To keep your RPM up, you need to slip your clutch more in the first 60 feet. Your clutch pedal becomes your accelerator pedal, not your gas pedal. We bike guys have the same problem. At lower RPM, our bikes make NO power, so we need to keep the RPMs up. Unfortunately, at 8000 RPM, the bike would be going about 80 KPH with the clucth fully engaged. So we hold the throttle wide open and feather the clutch lever to meter out the power that we need.

Keep in mind though, you can't do that too many times before there's no clutch left. Some pro racers in the Super Bike class can get about 3 starts out of their bike before the clutch is toast.

Chris.

Nice job Jason..

I ran my '01 one time at the track. Found that the best way was to rev it to 7,000 rpm, dump the clutch... and take off.

ran a 14.6x - it worked out to approx. 13.8 at sea level if I remember correctly

i want to practice some more... but i dont think i will..... works the cluth very hard especially since we have to drop the clutch at such a high rpm level... im pretty sure if i figure out the cluth feathering.... i can run in the 14's....
i tried it out on a dead empty road, it went straight to redline...so its trickier then i thought...

Don't feather the clutch at all in the S2000. You could completely destroy it and your diff. VERY quickly.

I wouldn't launch the S2000 at all, but if you're going to... you need to be dumping the clutch at high RPM to ensure the wheels are spinning nicely. If you don't get enough wheel spin the differential is going to hate you.
