Default Denver?

Hi all,
I am considering a job in the Denver area. Are there road courses and track events in the Denver area?
Also, my S is currently my daily driver. Anyone drive their S in snow? Perhaps I should get a beater for daily driving?

Thanks for your help.

I can answer part of your question. Our S is a daily driver and it does just great in snow - with dedicated snow tires.

Good Luck!!!

track events:
we had 3-4 club tracks close here so track time is difficult to get, the only open track is in pueblo colorado, 100mi south of denver

prior to this these things were well attended.

alot of people do autox, usally held in a parking lot near dia or in Colorado Springs. this is a good way to learn although actual track time is very small.

denver has a good selection of canyon roads between the peak to peak hwy (hwy72) and hwy93 like coal creek canyon, boulder canyon, lefthand canyon, st vrain canyon, etc. there are at least 7 major roads to test your skill in avoiding cops.

weather:
the valley is sheltered by the westword flow of storms so snow is infrequent unless the storm comes from the south. alot of sunny days but un predictable, anything is possible. lots of sand /gravel on the roads which in winter time chip away at your paint. typical 30deg difference in day /night temperatures so top down difficult. i dont consider the s2k + snow a good mix so i have a daily driver. summer can be hot and 100f can happen.

Thanks for the thorough reports.
If I do take the job, I'm looking forward to skiing all winter. I've been away from the snow too long.

Here in the Phoenix area, we've lost quite a bit of track time this year as well. Some of us are driving out of state to California and Nevada for track time. I suppose as long as I can get in a couple of events a year, I'd be okay.

I've never been to Denver outside of quick airline stops. I hear it is beautiful there with four seasons. For the past 20 years, I've lived in the south. Texas and Arizona. Have always dreamed of four seasons.

Military?
Me, my mother and father were both in the Marine Corps. I moved 14 times before high school. Since high school, I've moved about as many times - chasing job opportunities, etc.
I swore that this move to Phoenix would be the last, however the deal in Denver looks extremely sweet.

i lived in tucson and later denver, for a few years:

Phoenix and Denver are comparable
-more california influance in Phoenix. denver has good old boy attitude.
-felt AZ a bit strange, no main street where Denver is more N American, if this is good?
-both towns are bone dry but denver has more water, so long as it snows in the mountains the denver townies have water.
-the canyon roads are way better in denver, there are many
-no retirement communities here

I hope it works out for you!!!! My daughter used to live in Tempe - not too far from Gilbert. Not a bad place - I could never handle the heat is all (I know - it's a dry heat).
