Introduction
Okay Milo, that's a deal. What sort of setup were you looking at? I am having them spec out a system that includes the standard turbo, plus head gasket (to lower compression), maybe some head work, etc. They tell me such a setup should run 8 to 10+ psi. They are also specing something a bit more radical that would include a lot of work on the internals - thus allowing more like 12+ PSI.
PFB - You here in Boulder? Can you recommend any good shops to do modifications? I heard some good things about Flat Irons Acura. Evidently, a guy there has a pretty nice S2000 (you maybe?).
Anyway, hope to see you all tomorrow at lunch (weather permitting).

Weather should be nice. We should have around 30+ cars if everyone shows up. The head count for S2000's looks like 5.
Me, FULLTHROTTLE (if he doesn't drive his Type R), Lane, ptm, and Milo (maybe).
Anyone else going?
ptm: is your friend in the 360 going?

PTM if you cant find a decent shop near you I am always willing to help you in any way. i work for Empire Honda in Denver and I can do anything you can think of as far as repair, Maintenence, tuning, performance or Warranty. Geez I sound like a commercial. If you have any questions dont be afraid to ask.
Hey ptm,
Yes, I'm in Boulder, actually the mountains just outside of Boulder, but no, I'm not the guy at Flatirons Acura with the S2000. I've heard reference to him a few times, but have never met him.
Shops:
For warranty work, it's been kind of luck of the draw. Elway once did great work, and once did some marginal work. Fisher also, once did o.k. but initially really didn't have a clue about S2000's. I think now that the S2000 is in its third model year, it is easier to get quality work done at the dealer. I haven't used Empire Honda yet, but think I would likely take the car to Fullthrottle there next time I have anything significant I need done.
Mods:
For aftermarket mods, I encourage you to think carefully about what you install. It is just as easy to reduce performance as improve it , spending a ton of money in the process if you choose the wrong parts. My list of recommended "first step" performance mods that will improve the go, stop and turn of the car are:
- Spoon X-brace
- Mugen sway bar
- Porterfield R4S pads (for street and light track)
- Panther Plus pads (for track or autoX and street, but dusty and sometimes noisy)
- Earls braided lines, ATE super blue or Motul 600 fluid
- Cold Air Intake from AEM or Injen, although I haven't actually tried this one yet.
All of the above is available at competitive or better pricing from our sponsors, (https://www.s2ki.com/sponsor/listsponsors.php). I think I bought the Mugen bar from King, the spoon brace from MG racing, the Porterfields from bulletproof, the Panthers from Carbotech. A few other sponsors also sell spoon (I know Import Development does) and Ricks is now selling brake lines.
All of these items are easily installed with basic hand tools and some inexpensive plastic rhino ramps or jack stands. I'd be happy to help, or even organize some kind of S2000 wrenching session once the weather warms up a bit.
I'm very interested in seeing some local speedcraft turbo installations when they get completed. I don't think I would do a supercharger for a variety of reasons.
Personally, I would be careful about purchasing exhaust (either no power gain or huge noise gain + expensive), wheels (many are heavier than stock with incorrect offsets), springs (Unless you are setting it up more or less specifically for the track), and the ECU.
Events:
As a previous 996 owner, you probably know most of the following, but in case you don't or for others out there, here is some event info:
It used to be rare to see more than 2 S2000's at any given place at any given time. Now there are lots of events that bring us out in mass, although many of our cars are in semi-hibernation for the winter.
The Denver area is very active with AutoX, with both a summer and winter series. Check out www.rmsolo.org for more info. While I enjoy the actual driving in Autox, it personally drives me nuts to spend 6+ hours at an event to register, tech, safety inspection, drive and work for about 4 minutes of seat time.
There are also frequent open track days at Second Creek, with less frequent track days at Pikes Peak (NASA has scheduled an open track weekend May 4-5, great fun last year!) and Pueblo as well. Second Creek is also available most days midweek in summer and midweek + weekends in winter for about $60 test and tune sessions.... LOTS more seat time than AutoX! If you've never been on the track before, have someone show you the line first and go over some basic passing rules. If you want more formal instruction, Michael Pettiford at go for it racing does half and full day track instructions for less than the price of a crash repair
We have also set up a few mountain drives, and I'm sure as the weather warms up there will be many more...
Other:
What color is your S2000 and what part of Boulder are you in? Perhaps a Boulder S2000 lunch sometime this week? Anybody else interested?
Also, I'm very curious to hear your perceptions of the S2K vs the 996. I've been looking at some P-cars, and have recently been offered a what seems to be a fantastic deal on a well equipped, 6K mile '01 996. Slate Gray/Graphite Gray, PSM, Technic package, 18" Turbo-Looks. $57K.
