Default Laws in CO?

I am thinking about moving to the Denver area a year from now. Does the area require inspections, emissions, personal property tax? Is the law strict on loud exhausts? What about tint, is there any legal % in CO?

I do plan on buying a truck for the winter, but just curious, does anyone from here drive their S year round?

Yes on emmisions. Loud exhausts are frowned upon, mine is loud! I think 32% is the lowest you are allowed, I have 20%.

Drive my S year round Dedicated snow tires!!

So how are the cops around the area? Strict on tint and loud exhaust? How often do you have to get an emmissions test?

There are no inspections on vehicles here in Colorado, just emissions. The law isn't very strict on loud exhausts. Denver, the city, does have a decible level but its not enforced very much. The legal limit for tint is 20% but you get away with darker fairly easy, the police aren't very strict about that either.

There are a few people here that use their S2000's year around. They just put a set of snow tires on. We don't get very many deep snow's. The snow very rarely gets over 3-5 inches.

Hope this helps,
Kyle

Yes, definitley helps! What about personal property tax, do you guys have it? If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you probably don't have the tax in CO.

Emission tests once every two years.

Also, kind of off-subject, but does anyone know of good places to live around the Denver area, with low crime and <30 min commute? I plan on buying a condo as soon as I move out there, and want to get people's opinions who alreadylive there. Thanks!

I've only lived south of downtown Denver. The Littleton/Highlands Ranch area is a fairly good area. The bad thing is - its hard to make it downtown in 30 minutes, unless you try and make it across town really early or really late.

taxes
proptery tax yes, sales tax yes: every area is different, lowest in un encorperated areas, that is not within a town or city limit.

emissions
larger metro areas such as Denver, Boulder, ColoradoSprings, FtCollins, etc will have emissions. small towns such as FtMorgan do not, i register difficult vehicles there. you will have to google for the phone number, the company doing the inspections is AirCare and there is a state office as well, they can tell you more about the emissions process. last time i had the s2000 done they did not even dyno it, did a static test. be ware they will give you heck if you have none oem wheels and things on it. they plug into the odb2, visual test for the cat, engine fault lights etc but overall the test is easy to pass.

winter driving
mild winters here the last few years. a front wheel drive car works just fine. mostly sunny days here so you will still get to drive the s during the winter on the weekends, just the gravel on the roads dngs up the front of the car. every windshield has a crack in it in colorado.

condo
downtown denver is centeral to most areas. dont know where you will be working so cant advise on where to live with that 30 min drive in time but very possible tho.
look at condo prices and proptery taxes on zillow.com
