It is unlawful...
Here is from a citation warning (ie, stop or be prosecuted) left on my windshield:
"It is unlawful for any person, with the entent to make a profit or gain of money or other thing of value, to sell, exchange, lease or offer to sell, exchange, [or] lease a motor vehicle without being duly licensed as a motor vehicle dealer.
This law was enacted to protect consumers from unlicensed motor vehicle dealers. Anyone who willfully violates thsi law commits a class 3 misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not less than one hundred dollars or more than one thousand dollars for each seperate offense. A second conviction shall be punished by a fine of two thousand five hundred dollars."
So, you all are now under notice that it is illegal for you to sell your own car, and (since you read this) can be punished by a stiff fine for doing so.
Great law!
PS: this was an official Colorado document, signed by a law officer.

Truly for real; an officer signed it and left it under my windshield. I typed it in exacly as it reads (except for that one "[or]" part because I think the or should be there
Anyway...yes, the absolutely craziest thing I've ever heard as well.

I do not believe there is anything anyone can say about you selling your own property (car) as long as you are advertising it on private property with permission. I seem to remember seeing something on tv recently about a crackdown on the cars placed throughout the city in basically what amounts to the road right of ways. OPerhaps they pulled this law out of the books - maybe an antiquated law? - in order to be able to put some bite in the crackdown?!
