2003 OEM hardtop install kit???
 

Hi all,

I know there is plenty of hardtop discussion already out there, but I've struggled to find definitive answer for this.

I've found a OEM hardtop for sale from another 2003 car. The mounting kit is still attached to the car and the seller has said I can have it if I come and remove it.

Can anyone tell me what I will need to remove in total, and what tools are required for the job?

Simply removing the top will get a lot of what is needed. The catchers require taking out some body panels and three bolts each and then the defroster cable.

Top will need to be adjusted when installed on your car.

You are going to have to open up both cars. When you remove his catchers you need the bolts that go with it because they are longer. Install the catchers in your car and give him the bolts from yours to fill the vacated holes in his car. You'll see what I mean. You also need to swap brushes because they are cut differently to expose the hole that the stakes go in from the hard top. Basically, you will be getting catchers, bolts, brushes and defroster wiring harness from him. He will need bolts, brushes and a round cutout from you (you will see what I mean. It is where the defroster from the roof plugs into the defroster wiring harness in the plastic interior panel)

Just reference the PDF in that thread and it will give you all of the info you need. I just did this swap a few weeks ago. Hopefully the guy doesn't mind having to disassemble the interior a bit. There's a little more to this swap than you'd imagine but it is very easy. As mentioned, don't forget to grab the wiring harness for the defroster if you expect to use it in your car. If you didn't get the necessary mounting parts from him it would easily cost you $400 which is crazy.

I've seen the price of the kits and yeah, they're crazy!

The car is at a dealership (not Honda) and I don't think they'd be too happy about me doing too much to the car, I'm not sure they've realised what is involved in this job.

Might just offer them an extra £100 to get the kit off for me so I can just turn up and get it.

To do it right for both cars there has to be an exchange of parts. Hopefully they will allow this to happen. Good luck.
