Default AP1 & AP2 trunk lid

Can anyone confirm installing an AP1 trunk to an AP2? I'm having trouble getting the AP1 trunk to LATCH onto my AP2, it just won't close. I bought the trunk off a body shop, but it looks structurally mint and the latch mechanism does latch when I push it in with a screw driver.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I didn't have a problem...

Then again, I put my AP2 latch onto my AP1 trunk. There shouldn't be any latch differences unless it's mounted a bit differently or a bit high/low or something. Or maybe the rubber bump stops on your AP1 trunk are higher, so you gotta push harder to get it to latch up?

Is the trunk centered on the hinges? Maybe the latch is off center from the grab bar.

It should work OK though. I have a physical AP1 trunk using AP2 hardware (latch, light, and key) on my AP2.

This is kind of funny. I have an AP2 trunk on my AP1 and I have to slam it pretty tight to get it to latch. I use it for a spare trunk with a wing for track days. When I put the latch back on my AP1 trunk it closes fine.

It is centered correctly, I've tried adjusting all the rubber stops, it's just a little tight to latch. I wonder if there's a tiny difference somewhere?

Yea I tried adjusting the offset and when it closes (holding it down), it looks perfectly aligned. I even went as far as pulling off the circular rubber stoppers AND the lateral rubber ones and it still won't latch. I can push the trunk sorta below the fenders and it still won't latch...

So either I got a dud, or there's differences between AP1 and AP2. Its not like the latch height has adjustability, otherwise I'd adjust it so latch lower cause I don't believe it's catching on the body side.

Stumped as to what to do...

Edit: I should add, I don't have the key cylinder hooked up so the metal bar that connects latch to key cylinder is just dangling, not that I believe this would contribute to the cause...

Do you have a key cylinder to add? I've never tried without. Perhaps the latch won't grab and it's stuck in an 'open' position. Thus it isn't clamping onto the car mounted catch.

No i don't have a key cylinder to put on. I thought about that as part of the issue, but if it was, I wouldn't have been able to lock the latch with a screw driver and release it with the metal pin or the latch open slider at the back...

Edit: I should also add, I volunteer'd someone small to climb into trunk and help me see if the latch is catching, and apparently it moves it enough to close trunk light but not low enough to latch... I just don't see an adjustment mechanism for me to lower the latch further down. The position of the latch looks identical to my AP2 trunk... Unless latch is damaged somehow...

I just learned it is required to have the key cylinder hooked up, which is why mine is not latching.

Thanks for all the suggestions! (and yes, you were right daktruckie99!)
